The blossoming and the red hand of the state

This is Dongchuan. Officially became a city during the communist cultural revolution (1966). Everyone who had a degree got killed or sent to the reeducation fields. Temples were burned to the ground. Universities shut down. 90% of the population were sent to work in the agricultural production.
The starvation killed more than 30 million people in the previous years, so the whole country started to work to feed china. Dongchuan is located in a very unique valley, it has a red land! The perfect spot for the Communist party to send the works. This is the best place in Asia for crops.
The population effort led to the birth of a generation without culture, education, opportunities and dreams! Although, their sacrifice ended starvation among the biggest country on earth. Field like this one start to flourish.
That was the first step to build today’s China! A country that emulate the future of society and technology. A place of abundance! Families like the Ling’s, on this photo, provides food that make possible the unstoppable economic growth of China. In the other hand people lost their rights.
China is also the country that people are disposable since the first dynasty, 5.5k years ago. The country where most of the population spent their lives waiting for the next season of crops, because they had never had the chance to dream! Martim Castelo Branco - Dongchuan- Yunann - China. 20/06/19
